Everyone is encouraged to participate in Dimes for Hunger from September 7 through October 5. Did you miss the October 5 turn in? You can STILL participate!
Dimes for Hunger
“Kindness to the poor is an act of worship” Proverbs 14:31
Your dimes meet needs in our Presbytery. Your dimes meet needs in our world. Place a Dimes for Hunger jar or bank on your table and add a dime for every meal each person in your family eats. Pray for the needy people that your dimes will reach. Every person who contributes a dime per meal per day will have contributed $9.30 by the end of one month. Our offering was collected on World Communion Sunday on October 5. If you MISSED turning in your offering, there is STILL time. Contact the church office (803) 547-5543, email John Garver at jgarver@unityfortmill.org, or turn it in during the regular offering the next Sunday you are at church.
Did you know...?
· Did you know that several members of the Unity family are featured on this year's Dimes for Hunger campaign video?
· Did you know that the Presbytery's goal for the Dimes for Hunger campaign = $9.30 x each member. For Unity, that would equate to 987 members X $9.30 or $9179.10?
· How many people could we feed if that amount was raised?
· Did you know that 50% of the contributions remain in the area served by our local Presbytery? The Presbytery area includes Lancaster, Union, Chester, Kershaw, and York Counties. York County agencies receiving Dimes for Hunger funding include York County Adult Day Care, Fort Mill Care Center, York County Council on Aging (our nutrition center), Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen.
· Did you know that Unity's highest contribution in the last 10 years was in 2004? The amount raised for Dimes for Hunger that year was $4129.33.
· Did you know that 50% of the contributions are sent for global missions? This year, countries receiving funds include Honduras, Guatemala and Malawi. Missions include Heifer International, in both Honduras and Guatemala, an orphanage in Malawi for children whose parents have died of AIDS, Project Alternatives in Honduras and scholarships for youth to continue their education.
· Did you know that Unity contributed 11% more to Dimes for Hunger in 2007 than we did in 2006? The amount raised in 2006 was $3522.60; the amount raised in 2007 was $3,928.63. Our goal for 2008 is $5000.
On Sunday, September 7, Unity began its Dimes for Hunger campaign. We were asked to place a dime per meal, per person, in a container for 30 days. The money collected by the Presbytery will be divided, with half going to hunger agencies in our five county presbytery, and the other half sent to Heifer, International in Honduras and Guatemala and an orphanage in Malawi. Both the Fort Mill Care center and our nutrition center will benefit from the money raised. Our offering was collected on World Communion Sunday, October 5.
