Worship and Music
Ministry Team
Meetings are held four to six times per year to discuss issues and make decisions relating to worship and music ministries. This team works closely with the ministers and the Director of Music to provide meaningful and inspirational worship opportunities for people of all ages.
Acolyte Coordinators
Coordinators are needed to recruit, train, and supervise young people to serve as acolytes in worship services.
|
Usher
Ushers are asked to serve once a month. Duties include handing out bulletins, assisting people to seats in the sanctuary, passing the offering plate, checking pews after services, collecting welcome pad sheets after the 11:00am service, and straightening the sanctuary after services as needed. Assistance at funerals is also needed.
Greeter
Greeters serve on Sunday at either service, and are asked to arrive in time to warmly welcome those attending worship.
|
Lay Leader in Worship
Adults, youth, and children assist in worship leadership for regular Sunday worship services and special services. A training class is offered for those who are interested in serving in this ministry. Lay leaders are scheduled to assist in worship on a rotating basis, usually no more than one or two times per year.
|
Communion Preparation
Serve on a team to prepare the communion elements on Sundays when the Lord’s Supper is celebrated. A training class is offered. Preparation occurs on the Saturday before Sunday communion, as well as before, between, and after worship on Sunday, and for special services. Teams normally prepare communion once or twice per year. Bread bakers are also needed.
|
Chancel Choir
This choir is open for adults and youth who are in the tenth grade or higher. The Chancel Choir provides service music for worship on a weekly basis. The choir most often sings for 11:00 am worship, but occasionally they do sing at the 8:45 am service. Special music is provided several times during the year, including the annual Lessons and Carols service in December.
|
Children’s Choirs
Choirs are open for children ages 4 through sixth grade. The Cherub Choir is for children age 4 through first grade, while the Junior Choir is for grades two through six. These choirs sing for worship on a regular basis, are responsible for the Christmas Joy Service, may participate in special events, and often do a musical in the spring. Adult helpers are needed to assist during rehearsals, as accompanists, to coordinate special activities, or to provide assistance during special programs or rehearsals.
|
Canterbury Bells
(Youth Handbells)
Young people who are in grades 5 to 8 are invited to be a part of our Youth Handbell Choir, the Canterbury Bells. The choir meets on a weekly basis, and may play for Youth Sunday, Christmas Joy Service, and for other worship services.
|
Joyful Ringers
(Adult Handbells)
The group is comprised of adults and high school ringers. This group plays for worship on a regular basis, many times providing the prelude and another selection in the service. Attendance at workshops, festivals, and community events are also possibilities.
|
Musicals/Dramas
Youth and adult helpers are needed occasionally to help with children’s musicals and plays. Assistance is often needed with costumes, helping children rehearse lines, building sets and props, and even adult participation in the play itself!
|
Instrumentalists
If you play an instrument, there are many opportunities for services at Unity! Many anthems for both adults and children require additional instruments. All types of brass (particularly trumpet), flute, oboe, violin, and percussion are often called for. Occasionally, a group is formed to play at special events, such as our church picnic and other events. Pianists are also needed to play for singing in Sunday School for the younger children.
|
Sanctuary Brass
Cleaning and Polishing
Teams assist with the monthly cleaning and polishing of brass items in the sanctuary. A coordinator is also needed to organize and manage this ministry.
|
Seasonal Decorations
Set up, decorate, and pack up seasonal decorations for the sanctuary and in other areas throughout the church facilities, as appropriate for the season. Special projects might include setting up and maintaining the Advent Wreath, Christmas decorating in the Sanctuary, as well as other seasonal decorations.
|
Fabric And Visual Arts
This team is currently making choir robes for the children's choirs. Plans for future projects include banners for worship. You do not have to have sewing skills to assist this team.
|
